The second decision is the safety build-up. Tempered (toughened) curved glass provides four to five times the mechanical strength of annealed float and breaks into small blunt fragments if it fails, which is why it is mandated for balustrades, doors, shower enclosures and any glass at low level. Laminated curved glass bonds two or more curved leaves with a PVB or SGP interlayer; the interlayer holds fragments in place after breakage and adds acoustic and UV performance.
